FAQ

How is the feeding amount calculated?

As a general guideline, formula-fed infants take roughly 150ml per 1kg of body weight per day (about 120–200ml as a range). For a 5kg baby, for example, about 750ml a day is a rough guide; divide that by the number of daily feeds to get the per-feed amount. Babies vary a lot, so please use this as a reference.

Can I use this while breastfeeding?

Breast milk is often given on demand (when the baby wants it), so it's hard to calculate precisely in ml. This calculator is better suited to estimating a rough formula amount for formula or mixed feeding.

My baby drinks less / more than the calculated amount. Is that okay?

The recommended amount is just an average guideline and naturally changes with how the baby feels that day and their growth pace. If weight is increasing steadily and diapers are wet enough, it's usually fine. If you're worried, consult your pediatrician.

What's the maximum daily feeding amount?

In infancy, it's often recommended that total daily formula not exceed about 1,000ml. From around 6 months, you start solids and gradually adjust the formula amount.
